సెక్స్ వర్కర్లలో ఉన్న పేదరికం, ఇతర కారణాలే దానికి కారణం. లాక్‌డౌన్‌లో సెక్స్‌వర్కర్లు పని చేసే సమయం ఏ మాత్రం తగ్గలేదని వారికి సాయం చేస్తున్న కొన్ని సంస్థలు చెబుతున్నాయి. మరి కొందరైతే మరో దారేదీ లేకపోవడంతో కొత్తగా ఈ వృత్తిలో చేరుతున్నారు. ఏ కారణాల వల్ల మహిళలు తమ శరీరాన్ని అమ్ముకోవాల్సి వస్తోందో ఆ కారణాలు ఇప్పటికీ పోలేదు. ‘‘నేను చేసే పనే నా ఆదాయ వనరు’’ అంటారు వీరు. అద్దె కట్టడానికి, ఆహారం కొనుక్కోవడానికి సెక్స్ వర్కర్లు చాలా ఇబ్బందులు పడుతున్నారు. ఇతరులకు అందినట్టుగా వీరికి ఏ మాత్రం సాయం అందటం లేదు. మనుషులు ఒక చోట కలవడం ద్వారానే నడిచే ఈ పరిశ్రమ కరోనాతో బాగా దెబ్బతింది. భద్రత లేకపోవడం, తీవ్రమైన అసమానతలు ఎదుర్కొంటున్న సెక్స్ వర్కర్లు ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా ఇప్పుడు కష్టాల్లో ఉన్నారు.

బ్రిటన్‌లో సెక్స్ వర్కర్‌గా పనిచేస్తున్నారు క్లెయిర్‌. లాక్‌డౌన్ ఈమె ఆదాయాన్ని తుడిచిపెట్టేసింది. ‘‘ప్రస్తుతం నేను ఎవరి వద్దకూ వెళ్లలేను. ఎవరినీ కలవలేను. దాంతో నా ఆదాయానికి గండిపడింది. నిజం చెప్పాలంటే ఇప్పుడు నేను బాగా కష్టాల్లో ఉన్నాను’’ అని ఆమె తెలిపారు. క్లెయిర్ సాధారణంగా నెలలో వారం రోజులు ఇటలీలో పనిచేస్తారు. ‘‘సెక్స్ వర్కర్లను ప్రభుత్వం అస్సలు గుర్తించదు. కాబట్టి మా పని చట్టవిరుద్ధం. మాకు ఎలాంటి సాయం అందదు. ఇది నిజంగా చాలా కష్టంగా ఉంటుంది’’ అంటూ ఆవేదన వ్యక్తంచేశారు. రాత్రి సమయంలో ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా రోడ్లు నిర్మానుషంగా మారుతున్నాయి. కానీ బ్రిటన్‌లో కొందరు మహిళలు ఈ పని కోసం బయటకు వస్తూనే ఉన్నారు.

ఇది చాలా భయంకరమైన సాయంత్రం. భారీగా వర్షం పడుతోంది. బ్రిస్టల్ నిశ్శబ్ధంగా ఉంది. మేం 20 నిమిషాల పాటు కారులో తిరిగాం. వీధుల్లో మాకు కొందరు మహిళలు కనిపించారు. వీళ్లంతా సెక్స్ వర్కర్లని మాకర్థమైంది. పేదరికం లేదా డ్రగ్స్ వ్యసనం వల్ల ఈ వృత్తిలో కొనసాగడం ఒక్కటే వీరికున్న మార్గం కావొచ్చు. ‘‘కరోనా వైరస్‌ ఉన్నప్పటికీ బ్రిస్టల్‌లో మహిళలు వీధుల్లోకి వచ్చి శరీరాలను అమ్ముకోవడం ఆగలేదు. ఇది మరింత ప్రమాదకరమని చెప్పొచ్చు. ఎందుకంటే కస్టమర్లు తక్కువగా ఉంటారు. బయటకొస్తే ఎవరికైనా ప్రమాదమే. అందుకే ఇది కష్టమైన సమయమని చెప్పాలి’’ అని వన్25 సంస్థ ప్రతినిధి అమీ సట్క్లిఫ్ పేర్కొన్నారు.

సాధారణంగా ఆమ్‌స్టర్‌డామ్ రెడ్‌ లైట్ ఏరియా కిక్కిరిపోయి ఉంటుంది. కానీ గత 8 వారాలుగా ఇది మూతపడే ఉంది. ‘‘నెదర్లాండ్స్‌లో చట్టబద్ధమైన సెక్స్ ఇండస్ట్రీలో పనిచేస్తున్న సెక్స్ వర్కర్లకు కరోనా సహాయం అందించేందుకు ప్రభుత్వం నిరాకరించింది. దాంతో ఇంటి అద్దెలు చెల్లించడానికి, ఆహారం కొనుక్కోవడానికి సెక్స్ వర్కర్లు ఇబ్బంది పడుతున్నారు. కానీ ఇతర ప్రజలకు, పన్నుచెల్లింపుదారులకు ప్రభుత్వ సాయం అందుతోంది. కానీ సెక్స్ వర్కర్లకు మాత్రం సాయం అందడం లేదు’’ అని నెదర్లాండ్స్‌లోని ప్రాస్టిట్యూషన్ ఇన్ఫర్మేషన్ సెంటర్ ఆమ్‌స్టర్‌డామ్ ప్రతినిధి వెటి లూహర్స్ చెప్పారు.

భారతదేశంలో పరిస్థితి మరింత దారుణంగా ఉంది. చాలామంది సెక్స్ వర్కర్లు రద్దీగా ఉండే రెడ్ లైట్ ప్రాంతాల్లో ఉన్నారు. అక్కడ భౌతిక దూరం పాటించడం దాదాపు అసాధ్యం. ‘‘వాళ్లు రెడ్‌ లైట్ ఏరియాల్లో చిక్కుకుపోయారు. వారికి ఆదాయం లేదు. ఆకలి – కరోనా భయం అనే రెండు సమస్యల మధ్య వాళ్లిప్పుడు నలిగిపోతున్నారు’’ అని ఆల్ ఇండియా నెట్‌వర్క్ ఆఫ్ సెక్స్ వర్కర్స్ ప్రతినిధి డాక్టర్ సమరజిత్ జానా తెలిపారు. కష్టాల్లో ఉన్న ప్రజలకు సాయం చేసేందుకు అత్యవసర నిధులను కేటాయించినట్లు బ్రిటన్, ఇటలీ, డచ్ ప్రభుత్వాలు చెబుతున్నాయి. కానీ మరింత సాయం కావాలని ప్రపంచవ్యాప్తంగా సెక్స్ వర్కర్లు కోరుతున్నారు.
