ప్రాణాలు తీసిన లాక్ డౌన్ ఆకలి

కర్నాటక రాష్ట్రం రాయచూరు జిల్లా సింధనూరు పట్టణంలోని వెంకటేశ్వరనగర్‌కు చెందిన గంగమ్మ(27) దంపతులు ఉన్న చోట బతుకుదెరువు లేక బెంగళూరుకు వలసపోయి కెంగేరి ఏరియాలో భవన నిర్మాణ రంగంలో కూలీలుగా పని చేస్తున్నారు. ఉండీ లేక అలా బతుకులు వెళ్ళదీస్తున్న వాళ్ళపై లాక్‌డౌన్ బండపడింది. కరోనా వైరస్ వ్యాప్తిని కట్టడి చేయడానికి ప్రభుత్వం అమలు చేస్తున్న లాక్ డౌన్ తో భవన నిర్మాణ పనులు ఆగిపోయాయి. కూలీలంతా అక్కడి నుండి వెళ్ళిపోవాలని కాంట్రాక్టర్ ఆదేశించాడు. దాంతో అక్కడ ఉండడానికి జాగా, తినడానికి తిండి కరువైంది.

ఇక‌ గంగమ్మ దంపతులతోపాటు కూలీలందరికి స్వంత ఊర్లకు పోవడం తప్ప మరో దారిలేకపోయింది. వెళ్ళడానికి ఏ వాహనం దొరక్క కూలీలందరూ ఓ ట్రాక్టర్ ను మాట్లాడుకొని మార్చి 30వ తేదీన బెంగళూరు నుంచి సింధనూరుకు బయలుదేరారు. వీళ్ళ ట్రాక్టర్ తుమకూరు రాగానే పోలీసులు ట్రాక్టర్‌ను ఆపేశారు. అక్కడి నుండి వెళ్ళడానికి వీలులేదని ఆదేశించారు. ఇక చేసేదేమీ లేక కూలీలంతా కాలి నడకన బయలుదేరారు. 230 కిలోమీటర్ల దూరం ఉన్న బళ్ళారికి ఎండలో మూడు రోజులపాటు నడిచారు. అప్పటికే ప్రజల్లో కరోనా వైరస్ భయం పట్టుకోవడంతో తోవలో ఎక్కడకూడా వీళ్ళకు ప్రజలెవ్వరూ కనీసం మంచి నీళ్ళు కూడా ఇవ్వలేదు. ఆహారం దొరకలేదు.

ఆకలితో... దాహంతో... మూడు రోజులు నడిచి ఏప్రిల్‌ 2వ తేదీన బళ్ళారి చేరుకున్నారు కూలీలు. బళ్ళారి చెక్ పోస్ట్ వద్ద వాళ్ళను ఆపేసిన పోలీసులు అక్కడున్న పునరావాస కేంద్రానికి తీసుకెళ్ళారు. అయితే అప్పటికే మూడు రోజులుగా అన్నం, నీరు లేక, నడిచీ నడిచీ వచ్చిన గంగమ్మ తీవ్ర అనారోగ్యానికి గురయ్యింది. దాంతో ఆమెను ఆస్పత్రిలో చేర్పించారు. అయితే చికిత్సపొందుతూనే గంగమ్మ కన్ను మూసింది.
